Being a triathlete, it is imperative that I have my nutrition dialed in to have a successful racing season. My goal before meeting with Matt was to drop some pounds before I was in the midst of my season. To do this, I thought that less would be more. After meeting with Matt, I learned otherwise. After he had reviewed my nutritional diary and workout log, he said I needed to increase my caloric intake and also gave me some guidelines to shoot for in regards to protein and carbohydrate intake. I must admit I was hesitant to increase my calories because I thought I would also see an increase in weight. However, I put trust in him and decided to get on board. After four months of IronMan training and carefully watching my caloric intake, my body fat dropped from 20.05% to 17.94% all while maintaining my lean muscle mass at 53.3kg. I was so excited to see results like those! Having kept muscle and losing 4lbs of fat in addition to increase training helped me place 2nd overall at The Redman 140.6 Triathlon in Oklahoma City. I am not the healthiest eater in the world, but with Matt's help I learned the right way to eat and burn calories. What I loved about my experience is that I didn't have to cut out my favorite foods, I just made better choices. He taught me how to really pay attention to nutrition facts, and learn what's really in the foods I ate. After knowing that, I didn't eat as much "junk food" as before, because I knew I could be eating something much healthier and filling in the long run. As far as fitness, he pushed me to a comfortable limit, always encouraging me to keep going, which is much easier to do than with a "drill sergeant" attempt. He is a wonderful trainer who I would recommend to anyone.
